Santos GLNG supports life-saving service for Central Queensland

Santos GLNG has strengthened its support of the local community by extending its partnership with RACQ CapRescue for a further three years.

Santos GLNG Chief Executive Officer Stephen Harty said extending the support, which has already been in place for a decade, would ensure the vital lifesaving aeromedical service continues to operate for industry usage and for the residents of Central Queensland.

We are proud to extend our partnership with RACQ CapRescue to secure this vital service for the people of central Queensland, Mr Harty said.

Our partnership with RACQ CapRescue helps ensure we deliver on our commitment to making a positive and lasting impact within the communities we operate.

In 2022 Santos GLNG have together spent more than $712 million with Queensland based suppliers and since the Queensland GLNG project began in 2016, have paid $412 million in state government royalties alone – enough to build eight primary schools.

The RACQ CapRescue area covers over 350,000 km2, which is home to about 300,000 people, including the residents of the Gladstone region.

From 1 January 2020 to March 2023, CapRescue, with the support of Santos GLNG, performed 300 rescues in the Gladstone region at an operational cost of almost $6 million.

RACQ CapRescue’s Operations Manager Kirsty Wooler said the number of responses in the area doubled from 2020 to 2021.

“Inter-hospital transfers have been on the rise, and other tasks can range from incidents on remote work sites, mountains, farms, motor vehicle and boating accidents and search and rescue missions,” Ms Wooler said.

“Santos GLNG’s support of Central Queensland is strong, as an Australian-owned and operated business, they are committed to building and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with local communities wherever they operate.

“This is delivered through their community sponsorships to help ensure that their region can share in the benefits of natural gas development.

“This corporate partnership with Santos GLNG is a clear representation of their mission to benefit the community they work in. We are grateful that they are helping to ensure RACQ CapRescue is able to keep flying, 24/7, 365 days a year.”
