Honouring a Legacy: Welcoming Our 2025 Herb Cordero Memorial Scholarship Recipient

In 2023, Santos GLNG proudly established the Herb Cordero Memorial Scholarship in partnership with Central Queensland University (CQUniversity) Gladstone. This five-year, $5,000 per annum scholarship was created in memory of our late colleague, Herb Cordero, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in mid-2022.

Herb was a highly respected Control Room Team Leader and Engineer — a cornerstone of the Santos GLNG team on Curtis Island. As a mentor and leader, Herb inspired those around him to strive for excellence and pursue their ambitions. This scholarship reflects his enduring legacy and our shared commitment to fostering the next generation of engineers.

As part of the scholarship, Santos GLNG offers work placement opportunities, allowing recipients to gain valuable industry experience either on site at Curtis Island or in our Brisbane office.

Recently we were proud to host our 2025 scholarship recipient, Mateo Bajzek — a third-year Mechanical Engineering student from CQUniversity Gladstone. Mateo visited our Curtis Island operations, including a tour of the plant and a visit aboard the Seri Angkasa.

We are proud to support this scholarship in Herb’s honour.
