In celebration of National Tree Day, the Gladstone Region came together in a show of environmental spirit and community pride. A total of 500 free native seedling starter packs were distributed to residents throughout July at Gladstone Central Plaza, helping households across the region kickstart their own biodiversity efforts.

Each pack included two locally grown native seedlings, a bag of premium potting mix, gardening gloves, and sunscreen - everything residents needed to get planting and greening their own spaces. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with all packs claimed quickly on each collection day.
This initiative was designed to foster local biodiversity and support habitat conservation. CEO Stephen Harty expressed the importance of the project, saying, “We’re proud to support the planting of native habitat stepping stones to help local wildlife and ecosystems thrive.”
All 1,000 seedlings were sourced locally and featured native species such as Callistemon 'Captain Cook', Leptospermum 'Pink Cascade', Acmena 'Forest Flame', Lomandra hystrix, and Austromyrtus 'Copper Tops’ - chosen for their resilience and value to local habitats.
Residents across the Gladstone Region have now taken the first steps toward a greener future, one seedling at a time. The success of this event highlights the community’s shared commitment to environmental stewardship and the future of our region.
